Mid-day meal scheme is an ambitious scheme of the government. The basic objective of this scheme is to provide quality prepared mid-day meals daily to every child studying in government and government-aided schools who enrolled in Class-I to Class-VIII and keep them free from malnutrition. In addition, universalization of elementary education is to develop mutual brotherhood, equality and cleanliness among children and to reduce the rate of DROP OUT.

This Scheme ensure to stay children in primary and middle schools. Children between the ages of 6 and 14 years studying in Class I to VIII, who enroll and attend local body schools, government schools, government-aided schools including madarsha and maqtabs under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan are eligible under the Mid Day Meal Scheme.

(i) It is a centrally sponsored scheme whose main objective is to provide adequate nutrients to all students studying in government and government aided schools while providing them hot midday meal in every school day, and to keep them free from malnutrition.

(ii) In addition, universalization of primary education by attracting children from outside the school, preventing drop outs, while giving education on social equality among children, developing a sense of brotherhood and habit of cleanliness are the complementary objectives of this scheme.
