The scheme aims to provide financial support at the time of marriage to poor families, encourage marriage registrations, encourage female education and prevent child marriages. The benefit of this scheme is payable for the marriages after 22 November 2007. Under this scheme BPL families and other such families whose annual income is less than Rs 60,000 / - (sixty thousand) are to be paid Rs 5,000 / - (five thousand) in favor of Bride at the time of marriage.
In the changing scenario, the Social Welfare Department has started Direct Benefit Transfer process from the state level for smooth implementation of the Chief Minister Kanya Vivah Scheme and speedy payment. Under the Direct Benefit Transfer process, payment is made through DBT in favor of the girl.

Eligibility criterias are as follows:
(1) Under the Chief Minister Kanya Marriage Scheme, BPL families or other families whose annual income is maximum up to Rs. 60000 / - .
(2) Girls mother or father must be a resident of Bihar,
(3) At the time of marriage, the girls age must be at least 18 years and the age of boy must be at least 21 years
(4) It is not a matter of remarriage, but in cases of valid remarriage under the Marriage Act, this grant will be applicable . Widow marriage will not be considered remarriage.
(5) The marriage has been duly registered.
(6) It has been announced that no dowry will be given.

Under this scheme, Rs. 5000 / - is paid in beneficiaries bank account at the time of marriage of Kanya by DBT.

Under the Direct Benefit Transfer process, the Block Development Officer at the block level will update the data of the beneficiaries of Mukhya Mantri Kanya Vivah Yojana and maintain it on the e-Suvidha portal. After checking the validity of the data/account, it will be sent to the Assistant Director, District Child Protection Unit, where the process of freezing it will be done. After that block wise payment file will be prepared which will be locked and processed for payment by the Assistant Director, District Child Protection Unit. Under this scheme complain can be lodged at the office of the Public Grievance Redressal Officer at the subdivision level and the District Public Grievance Redressal Officer at the district level. In addition, complaints related to this scheme can be lodged at the district office and at the office of the Managing Director, Women Development Corporation and Additional Chief Secretary / Principal Secretary / Secretary, Social Welfare Department at the state level.
