The scheme is implemented as part of the National Social Assistance Program (NSAP) of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. It is a non-contributory scheme and provides a monthly income for citizens above 60 years, who have no other source of income.

In this scheme old age persons belonging to BPL family of age group 60 years or above are covered. Old persons who are not getting any salary, pension, family pension or social security pension from the Central / State Government are eligible to enroll under this scheme.

BPL family of age group of 60-79 years will be eligible to get pension of Rs 400/- per month and age group of 80 years or above will be eligible to get pension of Rs 500/- per month.

5. Income Certificate.
6. Domicile Certificate.
7. Photograph of the applicant.

The person who fulfills the eligibility for availing the benefit of the scheme has to visit the RTPS counter located at the block office level with the prescribed form.

To get the benefit of Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension, the person who fulfills the eligibility has to submit his application in the prescribed form at the RTPS counter located at the block office level.
In the light of the recommendation received from the Panchayat Secretary and the documents maintained, the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme is approved by the Sub-Divisional Officer on the recommendation of the Block Development Officer on SSPMIS electronically. After accepting online, the approval order is issued automatically with the number and date, as well as if the mobile number of the beneficiary is maintained then it is also given on his mobile.

Under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension, the amount is paid to the beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) process. In this process, on the basis of the account number provided by the beneficiary, the amount of pension is paid directly to the beneficiary s account from the state level through PFMS.
Pension payments are made quarterly/monthly as far as possible. After the verification of the payment file from PFMS, it is prepared as soon as possible by the authorized officials from the Directorate level, after approving it on PFMS, Ready for Payment.
