The National Action Plan for Welfare of Senior Citizens has been implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi. This action plan has been prepared after the National Old Age Policy 2007 and after consultation with various state governments.
This is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, which aims for welfare and well-being of senior citizens of the society. This scheme takes care of the most important four needs of the senior citizens — financial security, food, health care and human interaction /life of dignity. It also includes the safety/protection and general wellbeing of the elderly, beginning from awareness generation and sensitization of the society.

Under this scheme old age person of age group 60 years or above are eligible.

Under this scheme, financial security, health care and nutrition, shelter and welfare, protection of life and property of the elderly, active and productive intergenerational relations, skill development are mainly promoted for the welfare of the elderly.
